Housing

The North Port St. Joe community has clearly identified housing and public health as its top concerns. In response, the North Port St. Joe CDC is actively pursuing several initiatives aimed at improving housing availability and quality. This includes exploring land purchases surrounding North Port St. Joe, the possibility of creating accessory dwelling units, and establishing a community land trust. These efforts are interconnected and designed to ensure the development of affordable housing that allows residents to remain within their community.

Many existing homes and apartments in the area have been impacted by environmental events, leaving them uninhabitable. The NPSJ CDC is committed to collaborating with blight management groups to preserve homes for residents and, when necessary, facilitate the demolition of unsafe structures to protect public health.

In addition, we are exploring additional strategies, such as rent control and tax relief programs, which could be implemented by local government to maintain affordable housing and help retain the residents who choose to make North Port St. Joe their home.

Property Preservation & Stabilization

We have recently secured funding to enhance property preservation and stabilization efforts in the community. This new initiative will help address code enforcement liens and violations and offer assistance to homeowners interested in selling property to local agencies.

The funding will support the removal of burdensome code enforcement liens, allowing homeowners to invest in their properties and contribute to a more stable housing environment. Additionally, the NPSJ CDC will use the funds to facilitate land acquisition for affordable housing, aiming to revitalize the neighborhood and attract returning residents.

Our goal is to promote sustainable community development, ensuring North Port St. Joe remains a thriving and inclusive neighborhood for all.
